Welcome to my niche on the web!

Thanks for surfing by my little niche on the web. At this juncture in the space-continuum, I’m the only Prestridge who has a web page on this site. Hopefully, some of my immediate family will want to participate in this experience and post pictures, blogs, etc. on this site.

A bit about me: I have earned numerous degrees in almost equally numerous fields; I possess sundry degrees from Southern Methodist University in the disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Software Engineering.  Don't worry - a thermometer still has more degrees than me...but I'm working on rectifying that situation!

I worked at Texas Instruments' Educational and Productivity Solutions Group (the fancy euphemism for calculators) for almost 9 years before transferring to a position as Vice President of A-ero Tec Graphics, Inc.  I am currently employed as a Senior Field Applications Engineer for IAR Systems AB, a microcontroller compiler company based out of Uppsala, Sweden. Additionally, I have taught at several local institutions such as Southern Methodist University, Collin County Community College and Dallas County Community College.  I occasionally do contract work under the rubric of Electrical or Software Engineering (embedded systems development).

Research interests

My research interests are concentrated primarily in Cryptology, including (but not limited to) Large Number Theory, Quantum Cryptography, Elliptic Curve Cryptography, Number Field Sieve computing and communication encryption.

Jennifer

I would be remiss if I didn't post a bit about my lovely wife Jennifer.  We were married on 14 Feb 02 - a date I suggested so that I only need to buy one present for Valentine's Day and our anniversary.  As I like to say, marriage is a thinking man's game.  8-)

Seriously, I'm very fortunate to have someone by my side who believes in me as much as she does - more than I believe in myself.  Moreover, she handles my idiosyncrasies with aplomb and rarely excoriates my eccentricities.  I keep trying to make her develop a website, but she tells me that, "One webmaster per household is plenty."

Amber

This is my only child Amber (or "Hamber", as Lillian - one of the neighbors' children - calls her).  Amber was born on 1 May 99.  She weighs 4.5 pounds and stands a menacing 6" tall.  She's very sweet tempered for a Chihuahua and is definitely a "daddy's girl".  She only speaks Spanish as that is all I've ever taught her.  Hence, when Jennifer yells at her in English, Amber looks at her as if to say, "No entiendo."

Hobbies

My hobbies include running, weightlifting, clubbing and reading classical literature.  Although my musical tastes are rather eclectic, I tend to gravitate to Eurotrash and love BBC Radio 1's Essential Selection with Pete Tong.  You can listen to Tongy's broadcast from last Friday here (you must have RealPlayer installed).  Pete and I are really close...so close that he called me out on his program on 26May 2006 and again on my birthday on 14Jul06!  He butchered my last name, but that's okay - I'm acclimated to it.

I'm also a member of North Texas Mensa.
